Thursday, March 27, 2003 ( 12:51 PM ) JZ ***Well Hello*** Hi soldier! I found out today the sailor that I have been writing to as well as one of the classes here has been writing to, is going to be going home mid April. He lives nearby and is planning a visit to our school! # ( 12:48 PM ) JZ ***Ok*** I can't wait to finish school and get a new job. How soon can I get out of here?! I just need to say that. I can't really post more right now. # Tuesday, March 25, 2003 ( 7:46 PM ) JZ ***School*** I finished my second class. Just 15 more to go! # ( 7:45 PM ) JZ ***Support*** I know that most of my posts lately have related to the war. This is not and will not become a political journal. I just feel very strongly on my views of the war. With that said please sign the American Thankyou Card to our troops. Already 9,038,762 people have signed to date. # Monday, March 24, 2003 ( 2:25 PM ) JZ ***Be Patriotic*** Top Symbols of the U.S.A. See that flag waving in the breeze...over the neighborhood school, at the pool, or at a ball field? Does your throat catch with pride? Many Americans who once took for granted the freedoms we enjoy and the great nation in which we live now have a newfound respect for what it means to be a citizen of the United States of America. The Harris Poll was curious about what we think it does mean to be an American. So they logged on to the Internet and interviewed 2,142 American adults via the Web and asked them. Here are the results of that survey: What are the top three symbols of our country? The stars and stripes, New York's Statue of Liberty, and the national anthem. Runners-up were the bald eagle, the White House, and the song "God Bless America." And this is worth noting for its humor: 3 percent of adults think McDonald's is one of the top three symbols of the United States. What is the most important element of the American dream? Freedom, financial security, and democracy led the list, followed by owning a home, getting an education, having a good job, and expecting one's children will do better than their parents. Are you proud to be an American? Eighty-four percent of American citizens say they are "very proud" to be an American and another 12 percent say they are "somewhat proud." Only 2 percent say they are "not proud" to be an American. Add in the "Star-Spangled Banner" and what happens? When the band strikes up the national anthem, fully 90 percent say they feel pride when they hear it. What foods are typically American? Hamburgers and cheeseburgers topped the list, followed by apple pie and hot dogs. Some also named barbecue and fried chicken. If you were forced to be a citizen of another country, what would it be? Most Americans said they would choose Canada, Australia, or Great Britain. No other country was named by more than three percent of the respondents. --Cathryn Conroy # ( 2:17 PM ) JZ ***War & Peace*** I have so many things that I could say right now but I am going to try to limit it. I am sickened when I see people protesting the war, especially people who have signs that say "No more blood for oil". I am sorry but this war is not about the oil. Ignorance must be bliss. I support our President and believe that he is making important decisions for our country. I support each and every person who is serving in our military. I feel blessed to live in a country where we have the freedom of speech, and freedom of expression. I am sickened by the fact that the media is broadcasting the ENTIRE war all over the television. If we want to see each battle up close and personal then we need to join the Army, Navy, Marines or Air Force and go to Iraq and fight for our country. We should not be able to sit in the comfort of our own homes watching the marines approaching Baghdad. We are not only risking the chance of seeing fatalities up close and personal but we are also giving everyone around the world exact locations as to where our troops are. Um hi come on over and ambush us, we are right here! Ok that is enough for now. It is making my blood pressure go up. # ( 10:47 AM ) JZ ***Blog Rolling*** I am playing around with my site today. Right now I am playing with blog rolling. Check it out! # Sunday, March 23, 2003 ( 6:49 PM ) JZ ***Help from Home*** I don't have alot of time right now, I will post more tommorow on my views on the war and the protesting that is going on. But if you would like to show your support to a soldier who has no one writing to him or her, please click on this link. I beleive that each and every soldier should know how much we appreciate what they are doing for each and every one of us. God Bless America. #
